Glycerine (Glycerol)
General Application:

Glycerine is used in a wide variety of pharmaceutical formulations including oral, ophthalmic, topical, and parenteral preparations. Glycerine is additionally-used in aqueous and nonaqueous gels and also, as an additive in patch parenteral formulations, glycerine is used mainly as a solvent and cosolvent. In oral solutions, glycerine is used as a solvent, sweetening agent, antimicrobial preservative, and viscosity-increasing agent. It is also used as a plasticizer and in film coatings. Glycerine is used as a plasticizer of gelatine in the production of soft-gelatine capsules and gelatine suppositories.
