n-Heptane
General Application:

Heptane is widely used in laboratories as a non-polar solvent. In the grease spot test, heptane is used to dissolve an oil spot to show the previous presence of organic compounds on a stained paper. Large scale industrial use of heptane happens for manufacturing various types of inks such as stamp pad ink, printer ink, etc. Heptane also finds application in the production of compounders, cements, and hospital anesthetics. Heptane is a popular chemical of choice for extraction of oil from vegetables, cheaply and in a more environmental-friendly way than traditional pressed methods. Pure heptane is not suitable for the application, but industrial grade heptane that is a mixture of isomers.
